This weekend, millions of people filled the streets in every state at more than 1,400 Hands Off! events to protest Trump and Musk’s threats to our democracy in the largest mobilization since Trump took office.
With Passover starting this weekend, I am reminded of the the Erev Rav — the mixed multitude that left the narrow place of Egypt together. This diverse group of Jews and non-Jews alike journeyed together through the desert for forty years to find the promised land.
The Erev Rav is us, right now. We get free today, as we did in ancient times, only in solidarity.
We, the Erev Rav, are the majority. If we all speak together, we win. If we all vote together, we win. If we all keep marching together, like we did this weekend, we win.
Our faith and liberation traditions have equipped us for this moment. Our ancestors brought lessons and teachings across generations — by word and by writing, in public and hidden — for this moment. We are listening and we are rising up.
It is we, all of us together, who stand in the way of today’s Pharaohs — let’s stay there. So that we can create a future where we can all truly be safe and thrive, no matter who we are, how we pray, where we are from, or who we love.
In solidarity,
