Bend the Arc: Jewish Action applauds Senate Democrats who took a principled vote on resolutions about arms sales to Israel

We thank the Senators who have historically voted this way, in the interest of the lives of all people in the region, and the safety and futures of all of us in the U.S. We especially thank those who joined for the first time like Senators Tammy Baldwin, Angela Alsobrooks, Martin Heinrich, Patty Murray, Lisa Blunt Rochester, Jon Ossoff, Jeanne Shaheen, Raphael Warnock, Sheldon Whitehouse, and Angus King.

We thank the constituents across the nation who demanded the U.S. enforce its own policies on weapons and human rights, and immediately respond to, and end the unfolding forced starvation of Palestinians in Gaza.

We’ve said it before: U.S. support for continued violence against Palestinians in Gaza is also putting American safety and our democracy in danger.

Jews are rising across the nation to stand with you. In the backdrop of dozens of rabbis being arrested in NYC and DC, tens of thousands of Jews taking action across the country, and 100 Jewish congregations, synagogues, and organizations like ours demanding an end to the Israeli government’s starvation of Palestinians, our CEO, Jamie Beran, penned a letter urging our members to redouble our demands to bring food aid to Gaza.

In it she also warned that while food would prevent further starvation, it would not be enough to care for those already afflicted with life threatening malnutrition. Instead of sending weapons, the world must be sending food aid, medical staff, medicine and mobile intensive care facilities. It cannot do so without an immediate ceasefire.

Bend the Arc: Jewish Action is known as the largest domestic-only progressive Jewish organization in the country, and it is in that stance that we insist Jews and our institutions and communities cannot ignore the urgency of this crisis and the threat that arming it brings to our struggle for democracy and safety at home.
