Today is Election Day. Here in New York City, I’m closely watching the mayoral race, where Bend the Arc endorsed Zohran Mamdani and Trump just endorsed Andrew Cuomo.
Today is also the fourth day of 42 million Americans going without their full SNAP benefits because of the Trump administration.
The contrast could not be more stark: New York is about to elect a candidate who put affordability and solidarity across difference at the center of his campaign.
The MAGA party is literally taking food out of the mouths of hungry children, the elderly, the disabled, and the working poor — including Jews across all of these groups.
The lesson is clear: First and foremost, ensuring Jewish safety and fighting antisemitism means defeating the fascist MAGA movement that threatens all of us.
One way we do that is electing political leaders who will stand up to Trump, like Zohran Mamdani. You can donate to fund our final shifts to get out the vote here.
Another way is putting pressure on our elected officials to get desperately needed resources into the hands of hungry families around the country. Our friends at Mazon have an action you can take: Email Congress to fund November SNAP benefits and address the hunger crisis.
And we have to stay united with our allies and strengthen our pro-democracy movement. This includes seeing through how the Right uses smokescreen antisemitism — pretending to care about Jewish safety, while taking away freedoms from all of us.
New York City is the most Jewish city in the country.
We’re about to show the country what Jews actually care about and what Jewish safety really means. And that fear-mongering, racism, and Islamophobia can’t separate Jews from our values or the multifaith, multiracial coalition we need to win.
I’m proud of my city, of Bend the Arc (especially our local chapters), and of all of us. Thank you for being part of this powerful, truth-telling, fascist-fighting Jewish movement that knows thriving for any of us requires thriving for all of us.
